Desk Correspondent , New Delhi - Following the conclusion of assembly polls in several states, intense speculation has gripped the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over an impending organisational reshuffle and a potential Union cabinet expansion. The rejig in both the party structure and the central government is expected to take shape soon after newly appointed BJP President Nitin Nabin announces his new leadership team. This will mark the first major cabinet alteration since Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government was sworn in for a third consecutive term on June 9, 2024. A scheduled council of ministers meeting on May 21, chaired by the Prime Minister, has further fueled anticipation, although officials maintain it is a routine briefing to address external global challenges.
The upcoming changes are being strategically designed to prepare the ruling party for future electoral battles, including the crucial 2027 state assembly polls, the Presidential election, and the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. Party insiders indicate that the reshuffle will inject fresh energy by inducting younger leaders, women, and professionals into key positions, while some senior Union ministers or state chiefs may be transitioned back into core organisational roles to strengthen the party's grassroots footprint.
The BJP is particularly focusing its strategy on key poll-bound states like Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, aiming to induct representative faces from these regions into the national team. While the BJP currently relies on National Democratic Alliance (NDA) allies like the JD(U) and TDP for its parliamentary majority, formal discussions regarding additional ministerial berths for coalition partners have not yet commenced. Ultimately, the transition will reflect Nabin’s effort to balance experience with youth, while final cabinet slots remain the Prime Minister's sole prerogative.
