Ranit Kr. Singh , Kolkata – The Sitai Block Administration organized a vibrant bicycle rally on Sunday morning, June 7, 2026, around 9:00 AM, as part of the country's national 'Fit India' campaign. The event was held to observe World Bicycle Day and encourage local residents to lead healthier lives while making environmentally conscious decisions in their daily transportation habits. The lively procession, featuring numerous cyclists wearing matching white caps, kicked off from the Sitai Block Development Office premises and navigated its way through the local streets before concluding at Sitai Bazar.
This impactful wellness initiative was a collaborative effort jointly undertaken by both the Central and State Governments to foster a sustainable and fit nation. A diverse group of administrative personnel and local community members joined the rally, proudly carrying an official promotional banner and chanting slogans to spread awareness about physical fitness and pollution control across the block. Through this public event, the local administration successfully brought community members together to highlight how individual transit choices can play a massive role in creating a cleaner regional environment.
Speaking directly to the media at the event, the Block Development Officer, Kartik Chandra Chakraborty, emphasized the dual benefits of the initiative by stating, "Bicycles keep the human body healthy and are completely eco-friendly". He further observed that modern habits have drifted away from sustainable transport, noting, "Currently, people are using scooties or bikes under the pretext of saving time, which is increasing air pollution and noise pollution". Emphasizing the urgent need for a behavioral shift to protect public health and the local ecosystem, he concluded, "Therefore, riding a bicycle is extremely important".
