Ananya Lohia , Mumbai - Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta has voiced concern over Bollywood’s growing dependence on remixes after a fresh wave of recreated songs hit the internet. His comments come days after the remix of Chunnari Chunnari from Biwi No. 1 and the recreated version of Ucha Lamba Kad from Welcome were released.
Taking to X, Sanjay wrote, “Film music in 2026: every super-hit from 20 years ago has been remixed and released. My genuine concern: what will they remix in 2046? The remixes?” His post quickly sparked debate online, with many users agreeing that Bollywood is relying heavily on nostalgia instead of creating original music. In another post, the filmmaker raised a hypothetical question about the industry’s future if Bollywood was “banned from prequels, sequels, remakes and remixes.” He asked whether it would lead to the “best era of Indian cinema” or cause the “industry to collapse in 6 months.” The post received mixed reactions, with some users blaming the lack of creativity in modern filmmaking, while others pointed towards rising budgets and risk-free content choices.
Meanwhile, actor Salman Khan recently took a playful dig at Varun Dhawan over recreating many of his iconic songs. During the David Dhawan Film Festival, Salman joked, “Isne mera ek aur gaana uthaya,” leaving Varun embarrassed and laughing. Varun has previously featured in recreated versions of Salman’s popular tracks such as Chalti Hai Kya 9 Se 12 and Oonchi Hai Building.
