Karnataka - Mohan Bhagwat, chief of the ruling BJP's ideological parent body, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), prioritized the nationalist sentiments to put down the caste-based division among Hindus. This comment came at a time when the assembly election in Bihar is going on where caste is a big factor in this election. Mohan Bhagwat urged people not to be divided by caste “in national matters.”
In a question-answer session after his speech in Bengaluru, he threw questions - "Who asked Hindus to be divided? Why don’t they resist? Politicians divide us, but why don’t we say that we are one as a nation?” RSS is facing growing scrutiny in Bengaluru. In this tough situation, he took a jibe at the RJD. He attacked RJD’s caste-based “social justice” narrative in the midst of the Bihar election. He said, “Politics comes and divides us. Politicians come and say, ‘you are of this caste, he is of that'. Don't go with him. Why cannot I answer that 'I don't recognise caste in this matter; it is a national matter.'”
Mohan Bhagwat equated the power of unity among Hindus with nationalist sentiments. He ignited the belief of Hindu unity as a counter to caste politics. On the flip side, he also put the ball on the critics’ court to counter Bhagwat about provoking Hindu Rashtra ideology, where Hinduism is seen as the national identity, downplaying secularism.
