Ranveer Singh Visits Mysuru Temple Amid Kantara Mimicry Row, FWICE Issues Non-Cooperation Directive

Ananya Lohia , Mumbai - Actor Ranveer Singh visited the Chamundeshwari Temple on Tuesday as part of his apology in the controversial Kantara mimicry case. The visit came a day after the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) reportedly issued a non-cooperation directive against the actor, sparking speculation of a shadow ban in Bollywood.

The controversy began during the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India 2025, where Ranveer mimicked Rishab Shetty’s Daiva performance from Kantara in an exaggerated manner and mistakenly referred to the daivas as “ghosts.” The act triggered backlash, with a Bengaluru-based lawyer filing a complaint alleging that religious sentiments were hurt, leading to an FIR against the actor. Ranveer later issued a public apology, clarifying that his intention was only to praise Rishab’s performance. “I have always deeply respected every culture, tradition and belief in our country. If I’ve hurt anyone’s sentiments, I sincerely apologise,” he stated.

During recent proceedings in the Karnataka High Court, Ranveer’s counsel informed the court that the actor was willing to visit the Chamundi Hill shrine as part of his apology. However, the complainants questioned the ambiguity of his affidavit, where he had mentioned visiting the temple “in due course” due to scheduling and security concerns. Justice Nagaprasanna assured that a timeline would be formally recorded, stating that Ranveer would complete the visit within the next four weeks.
