Rajasthan Govt Suspends, Dismisses Staff After Two Postpartum Deaths at Kota Hospital

Desk Correspondent , Jaipur - The Rajasthan government has initiated strict disciplinary action against medical staff members following the deaths of two women after caesarean sections at the New Medical College Hospital in Kota. A senior doctor and two nursing personnel were suspended, a contractual doctor was dismissed, and show-cause notices were issued to two other doctors, officials said on Friday.

Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma directed a fair and time-bound probe into the incident. Medical Education Commissioner Babulal Goyal visited Kota to review the situation. Principal Secretary Gayatri Rathore stated that preliminary findings revealed serious lapses in adherence to medical protocols and procedures. Associate Professor Dr. Navneet Kumar from the general surgery department was suspended, while UTB Assistant Professor Dr. Shraddha Upadhyay was dismissed. Nursing officers Gurjot Kaur and Nimesh Verma were also suspended for alleged negligence in patient monitoring and protocol compliance. Show-cause notices were served to Dr. B. L. Patidar and Dr. Neha Sehra, unit heads in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department, regarding their supervisory responsibilities.

Around 12-13 pregnant women underwent C-section surgeries on Monday evening. Within eight to 12 hours, the condition of six women deteriorated critically, showing sudden drops in blood pressure and platelets, along with urinary blockage. They were shifted to the nephrology department. One woman, identified as Payal, died on Tuesday, while Jyoti Nayak, a Kota resident, succumbed on Thursday. Authorities have instructed proper treatment and close monitoring of all admitted patients as a detailed inquiry continues. Further action will follow receipt of the full inquiry report.Rajasthan Govt Suspends, Dismisses Staff After Two Postpartum Deaths at Kota Hospital
