Desk Corrsepondent , New Delhi - Russian President Vladimir Putin will travel to New Delhi on September 12 and 13 to attend the annual BRICS summit, according to an official Kremlin announcement. India holds the chairmanship of the grouping this year and will host the leaders of the major emerging economies. On the sidelines of the high-level gathering, President Putin is also scheduled to hold a crucial bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The visit will mark the Russian president's second trip to India in less than a year, following his attendance at the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit in December 2025. Preparations for the event have intensified following a recent two-day conclave of BRICS foreign ministers in New Delhi. The bloc, which recently expanded to 11 nations—including additions like Iran, the UAE, and Indonesia—now commands substantial global influence, representing roughly 40% of global GDP and nearly half of the world's population.
Kremlin aide for international affairs Yury Ushakov confirmed the high-profile itinerary to Russia’s state-run TASS news agency. Highlighting the upcoming schedule, Ushakov stated, "President Putin will take part in the BRICS summit in New Delhi on September 12 and 13."
