Desk Correspondent , Bengaluru – A 27-year-old woman, identified as Sonali, narrowly escaped a fatal assault on Wednesday after her husband allegedly attacked her with a knife on a busy road in the Madanayakanahalli area. The incident, which occurred on the outskirts of Bengaluru, was caught on CCTV and has since gone viral on social media. Quick-thinking local residents and passersby intervened after hearing the victim's screams, overpowering the assailant before he could inflict life-threatening injuries. The suspect, who was wearing a mask to conceal his identity, was restrained and reportedly thrashed by the crowd before being handed over to the local police.
According to the Madanayakanahalli police, the suspect has been identified as 35-year-old Sanjay, a native of Jharkhand, who is the husband of the victim. Preliminary investigations reveal that the couple had been embroiled in ongoing domestic discord, which is believed to be the primary motive behind the violent outburst. Sanjay reportedly followed Sonali on a scooter as she was walking along Madanayakanahalli Main Road and confronted her before pulling out a knife. Police Inspector Murali confirmed that the intervention of the public was instrumental in saving the woman’s life, stating that their rapid response prevented the situation from escalating into a homicide.
Following the attack, Sonali was rushed to a nearby hospital where she received treatment for multiple minor wounds. Medical professionals have since confirmed that while she sustained several wounds, they are non-life-threatening, and she is currently in stable condition. Sanjay remains in police custody as investigators continue to record statements and examine the digital evidence from the scene. Authorities are working to determine if the attack was premeditated, given the suspect’s attempt to hide his face. Legal proceedings are expected to follow as the police finalize the charges related to attempted murder and domestic violence.
