Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has launched a new ethanol-based cooking stove, promoting it as a cleaner and more affordable alternative to traditional LPG cylinders. The initiative is aimed at encouraging the use of biofuels and reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels in the country.
The ethanol stove works on ethanol fuel, which is produced from agricultural crops and biomass. According to officials, the stove produces less pollution compared to conventional cooking fuels and is expected to provide a cost-effective option for households, especially in rural and semi-urban areas.
During the launch event, Gadkari highlighted the importance of alternative fuels in India’s energy future. He stated that ethanol can help farmers by increasing demand for agricultural products used in fuel production while also supporting the government’s mission for cleaner energy and lower carbon emissions.
Experts believe the introduction of ethanol stoves could create new opportunities in the renewable energy sector. The move is also expected to support India’s efforts to reduce fuel imports and promote sustainable cooking solutions.
The government has been actively encouraging the use of biofuels in vehicles and household applications as part of its green energy strategy. Officials said further testing and awareness campaigns will be carried out to increase public acceptance of ethanol-based cooking technology.
The launch of the ethanol stove marks another step towards affordable and environmentally friendly energy solutions in India.
