New Delhi has implemented unprecedented security measures for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, with a dual focus on air and water safety. Over 11,000 personnel from the Army, police, and paramilitary forces are deployed at the Red Fort, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver his national address. These heightened precautions follow "Operation Sindoor against terrorism".
Intelligence inputs have led to increased surveillance at water treatment plants amidst fears of possible tampering. Speed boat patrols now monitor stretches of the Yamuna River near the Red Fort, and sewerage maps have been secured to close potential security gaps.
High-tech aerial vigilance includes two mobile command and control vehicles providing real-time video streaming to police headquarters. Sophisticated anti-drone systems will detect and neutralise unauthorised aerial incursions, complemented by air defence guns. "Kite catchers" on rooftops will prevent flying objects, and spotters will keep watch from high-rise buildings. AI-powered facial recognition is being used at traffic checkpoints leading to the Red Fort.
On the ground, approximately 200 buildings along the parade route are sealed, with windows cordoned off. Multi-layered barricades and roughly 60 companies of paramilitary forces, alongside 350 commandos, are stationed at strategic locations. To ensure smooth travel, Delhi Metro services will commence at 4 a.m.. These comprehensive measures aim to ensure a seamless and secure celebration in the capital.
