Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday welcomed the developments in Gaza, lauding U.S. President Donald Trump’s leadership after Hamas indicated it would release Israeli hostages. Modi said in a post on X that the potential release of hostages marks “a significant step forward” in the peace process.
Modi affirmed that India views the move as progress in restoring peace to the region and will continue to strongly support measures toward a just and lasting solution.
Hamas’s statement followed a U.S.-proposed 20-point Gaza peace plan by President Trump, which calls for a ceasefire, the return of hostages and prisoners, the demilitarisation of Gaza, and a transitional governance framework. Hamas said it was open to releasing all Israeli hostages—including those deceased—and would engage in further negotiations on other aspects of the plan.
