Swapna Kumbar , Bengaluru - Bangladesh is set to import 200 broad‑gauge railway coaches from India under a deal worth about Rs 915 crore, with deliveries expected to be completed by December 2027. The agreement is aimed at strengthening Bangladesh Railways’ passenger capacity and modernising its rolling stock with coaches built in India.

The coaches are being manufactured in India to suit Bangladesh’s broad‑gauge network, which is used on key intercity and long‑distance routes. Their induction is expected to ease pressure on existing trains, allow for additional services, and improve comfort and safety for passengers, especially as Bangladesh’s rail system faces rising demand.

Under the Rs 915 crore contract, India will deliver the 200 coaches in phases up to late 2027, giving Bangladesh Railways time to integrate them into operations, plan new or extended services, and train staff on maintenance and handling. The deal also reflects growing rail‑sector cooperation between the two neighbours, with India positioned as a key supplier of affordable, made‑in‑India rolling stock for the region.
