Desk Correspondent , Madrid - A six-year-old girl has been hailed as a "miracle" after becoming the sole survivor of her family in a devastating high-speed train derailment in northeastern Spain. The accident, which occurred late Tuesday near the coastal city of Tarragona, has claimed 42 lives and left dozens more injured. Rescue workers discovered the young girl, identified only as Lucia, shielded by the wreckage of a first-class carriage where her parents and two older siblings tragically perished.

The train, traveling from Barcelona to Valencia, was carrying over 300 passengers when it jumped the tracks at a high-velocity curve. Investigators are currently looking into whether a technical malfunction or excessive speed contributed to the disaster, which is being described as Spain’s worst rail tragedy in over a decade. "It is a scene of absolute heartbreak, but finding this little girl alive amidst such destruction is a light in the darkness," a lead paramedic from the Mossos d'Esquadra stated, noting that the child remarkably sustained only minor scratches and shock.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has declared three days of national mourning as the country grapples with the scale of the loss. Emergency psychological units have been deployed to assist the survivors and the families of the victims. While the "miracle girl" is currently under observation at a local hospital, the focus of the national inquiry has shifted to the safety protocols of the high-speed rail network. As flowers and candles begin to line the station in Barcelona, the story of the lone survivor has become a symbol of both profound grief and hope for a grieving nation.
