The man who attacked Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has been identified as a dog lover who was reportedly upset by a recent Supreme Court order concerning stray dogs.
According to police, the accused admitted during questioning that he disagreed with the court’s ruling and wanted to draw attention to the issue. Officials said he had been actively involved in feeding and caring for stray animals in his neighborhood and felt the decision was unfair.
The attack took place during a public event in Delhi, where security personnel immediately overpowered the man and took him into custody. While the Chief Minister escaped with only minor injuries, the incident has raised questions about the adequacy of security arrangements at political gatherings.
Authorities are now investigating the background of the accused and whether the act was preplanned. Meanwhile, leaders across parties condemned the attack, stressing that violence cannot be a means of protest.
The case has also sparked fresh debate over the balance between animal welfare, public safety, and judicial rulings on sensitive issues like stray dog management.
