Ananya Lohia , New Delhi - The controversy surrounding the viral "₹370 biryani" remark made during comedian Pranit More's crowdwork show has intensified, with Disha Patani's sister Khushboo Patani strongly condemning the comments. The issue erupted after 23-year-old Himanshu Jangra suggested that paying ₹370 for a chicken biryani on a date entitled him to a "return" on his investment, sparking widespread outrage on social media over the misogynistic nature of the remarks.
Reacting to the viral clip, Khushboo Patani shared portions of the video on Instagram and criticised both the audience member's comments and the response they received during the show. She questioned the mindset behind treating women as commodities and argued that such attitudes contribute to the objectification of women throughout different stages of life. Khushboo also expressed disappointment that the remarks were not challenged immediately on stage.
The backlash prompted both Himanshu Jangra and comedian Pranit More to issue public apologies. Himanshu apologised for his comments and subsequently deleted his social media accounts. Pranit, meanwhile, acknowledged that he should have challenged the remarks instead of laughing and moving on, calling it a lapse in judgment. He clarified that the audience member's views did not reflect his own and promised to learn from the incident. The controversy also had professional repercussions for Himanshu. His employer, Starvik Design, announced that it had terminated his employment. Founder Vivek Vishwakarma stated that while the incident occurred outside the workplace, it had begun affecting the company and its environment, prompting the decision to part ways with him.
What began as a crowdwork segment at a comedy show has evolved into a larger conversation about misogyny, accountability and the responsibility of public platforms. With criticism continuing to pour in, the incident has highlighted growing public intolerance towards remarks perceived as objectifying women, while also raising questions about how such comments should be addressed in public spaces.
