Desk Correspondent , Bengaluru – 32-year-old Youth Congress leader Fairoz Pathan was killed in his home on Friday evening. Four unidentified men barged into the residence in the Malapur area of Dharwad, Karnataka and killed him on the spot. The attack took place between 9.30 pm and 10 pm when the assailants assaulted the victim with lethal weapons, causing severe bleeding. Police confirmed the murder on Saturday, with the Sub-Urban Police Station team rushing to the spot for inspection amid panic among locals.
According to family accounts, Pathan, who had married just 15 days earlier, was sitting outside his house when the four to five men approached him. He ran inside and bolted the door, but the attackers broke it open, entered armed with knives, and assaulted him along with others present, including a woman, using whatever objects they could find. The assailants also stole two mobile phones before fleeing the residence. The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras, providing crucial evidence. City Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar said officers have already obtained some clues about the suspects and efforts are underway to arrest them soon.
Responding to questions on possible political rivalry, the commissioner stated he spoke with Pathan's mother and sister, who demanded punishment for the culprits without mentioning any enmity. He described the attack as potentially organised and assured a comprehensive investigation to identify planners and executors. The family is expected to lodge a complaint, and the probe will cover anyone directly or indirectly involved. The exact motive behind the murder remains unknown as the investigation continues.
