Justice Meenakshi Madan Rai has officially assumed office as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, marking a significant development in India's judiciary. She took the oath of office on June 5 at a ceremony held in Patna, where the oath was administered by Bihar Governor Lt. Gen. Syed Ata Hasnain
Prior to her elevation, Justice Rai served as a judge of the Sikkim High Court and was among its senior-most members. Her appointment was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium and later approved by the President of India.
Justice Rai succeeds former Chief Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo, who retired on June 4. Her appointment came into effect from June 5, making her the 48th Chief Justice of the Patna High Court.
Justice Rai has handled a wide range of civil, constitutional, and administrative matters during her legal career. Legal experts believe her leadership will play an important role in strengthening judicial administration and improving the efficiency of court proceedings.
Her elevation has also been welcomed as an important milestone for representation in the higher judiciary. Colleagues and members of the legal fraternity have expressed confidence in her ability to lead one of the country's oldest high courts.
With her appointment, the Patna High Court begins a new chapter under Justice Meenakshi Madan Rai's leadership as she takes charge of judicial responsibilities in Bihar.
