Folk and devotional singer Maithili Thakur has officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, stating her move was driven by inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Addressing media after her induction in Patna, she emphasized that her decision was not fueled by personal ambition but by a desire to contribute to society. “Joining a political party doesn’t make you a politician; I’m here to serve and bring their ideology to every person,” she said.
Identifying herself as the “daughter of Mithila,” she reiterated her strong emotional connection with her homeland. She said her roots remain deeply embedded in Mithila, and the transition into politics would be in alignment with that identity.
When asked about a possible electoral role, Thakur said she is open to contesting, depending on the party’s decision. “The party will know what they have in mind for me; I am here just to support them,” she stated, pledging to follow the directives of her new party.
