India has signed a $629 million defence agreement with Vietnam for the supply of the BrahMos missile system, marking a significant milestone in bilateral defence cooperation between the two nations.
The deal involves the export of advanced supersonic cruise missiles developed jointly by India and Russia, under the joint venture BrahMos Aerospace. The agreement is expected to strengthen Vietnam’s coastal defence capabilities while deepening strategic ties in the Indo-Pacific region.
Officials said the contract reflects growing defence collaboration and trust between India and Vietnam. The missile system is known for its high speed, precision strike capability and versatility across land, sea and air platforms.
Defence experts described the deal as an important step in expanding India’s defence export portfolio. It also highlights India’s increasing role as a supplier of advanced military technology to friendly nations.
The agreement comes at a time when regional security dynamics in the Indo-Pacific are evolving, with countries focusing on strengthening maritime surveillance and deterrence capabilities.
The delivery schedule and operational training support will be part of the implementation phase of the contract. The deal is expected to enhance interoperability and defence preparedness for Vietnam.
The agreement is also seen as a boost to India’s “Make in India” initiative in the defence sector, promoting indigenous manufacturing and international cooperation.
With this deal, both countries aim to further deepen their strategic partnership and enhance long-term defence collaboration in the region.
