A spell of intense rainfall wreaked havoc in parts of Punjab and Haryana on Wednesday, leaving one person dead in Mohali and injuring six school students in Panchkula.
In Mohali, officials confirmed that a man lost his life after being swept away in waterlogging caused by the downpour. Rescue teams later recovered his body from a low-lying area that was badly affected.
In Panchkula, six students suffered injuries when a school bus lost control on a slippery road. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital and are said to be out of danger.
The heavy showers brought traffic to a standstill in several areas, with long jams reported on key routes. Local authorities have urged residents to stay indoors and avoid waterlogged roads as more rainfall is expected in the coming days.
