Swapna Kumbar , Bengaluru- The southwest monsoon continues to strengthen across India, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue warnings of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Kerala and Karnataka. Several northeastern states are also likely to experience persistent rainfall over the next week, raising concerns over flooding, waterlogging, and disruptions to daily life.
According to the latest weather forecasts, coastal and interior regions of Kerala and Karnataka are expected to receive widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds. Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain cautious as heavy downpours could trigger localized flooding, landslides in hilly regions, and disruptions to transportation services. Fishermen have also been warned against venturing into rough sea conditions along parts of the western coast.
Meanwhile, the northeastern states, including Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, are likely to witness continued heavy rainfall during the coming week. The prolonged rain activity may lead to rising river levels, flash floods, and waterlogging in low-lying areas. Disaster management agencies and local administrations have been placed on alert to respond to any weather-related emergencies as the monsoon remains active across large parts of the country.
With heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in Kerala, Karnataka, and the Northeast, authorities are urging residents to stay updated with official weather advisories and take necessary precautions. As the monsoon advances further across India, weather experts continue to closely monitor rainfall patterns and potential impacts on affected regions.
