Actor Harshvardhan Rane has announced that he will cover all costs of his entourage himself, rejecting the norm of producers having to pay for personal staff during shoots. He says this move isn't sudden—it reflects a long-held belief that actors should not add extra financial pressure on producers.
Rane revealed that he was influenced not only by recent remarks from Aamir Khan, who criticized actors for expecting producers to pay for their personal staff and called it a matter of self-respect, but also by South-Indian film industry legends and director Rajiv Rai. He shared a post on Instagram declaring: “खुद्दारी है सर। I hereby pledge to not let my producer pay for my entourage.”
Speaking with Hindustan Times, Rane said his aim has always been to be “that actor who can get the maximum returns to a producer,” and this decision is one more step toward being a “profitable actor” who relieves producers, rather than becoming a burden. He emphasized that his intentions are simple and personal; he is not trying to lead an industry overhaul but believes in doing what feels right.
This pledge comes amid a growing debate in Bollywood over rising entourage costs, inflated demands like vanity vans, personal chefs, etc., which many believe have become unwarranted and unfair burdens on production budgets. Rane’s move has been welcomed by those who see it as a responsible and empathetic step in supporting more reasonable filmmaking practices.
