The investigation into the suspected dowry death of 26-year-old Nikki Bhati in Greater Noida has taken a new turn, with fresh evidence emerging that challenges initial allegations. Nikki died on August 21 after suffering severe burn injuries at her in-laws’ home in Sirsa village. Her husband Vipin Bhati, father-in-law Satyavir, mother-in-law Daya, and brother-in-law Rohit have been arrested following a complaint by Nikki’s sister, Kanchan, who is also married into the family.
Initial claims by Kanchan alleged Nikki was deliberately set ablaze by the family after being beaten. However, police have since recovered an inflammable substance from Nikki’s room and are examining multiple new video clips. A hospital memo, where Nikki was first admitted, also states she suffered burns due to a gas cylinder blast at home.
Furthermore, a video of Nikki’s funeral shows her father-in-law, initially accused of fleeing, playing a key role in the last rites, casting doubt on earlier versions of events. Police are now re-examining Kanchan’s statement and probing a previous assault case against Vipin. The family had allegedly faced demands for Rs 36 lakh and a luxury car. Greater Noida Police stated the probe would cover all possible angles.
