Goa’s Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte has firmly denied any plan to impose a beef ban in the state, dismissing speculation that the push for “spiritual tourism” could lead to restrictions on food choices.
While responding to media queries, Khaunte emphasized that Goa stands for culinary freedom and communal harmony. He affirmed that no part of the government is seeking to restrict what people eat, either locals or tourists. He noted that in Goa, different communities often participate in each other’s festivals and cuisines, reinforcing a culture of mutual respect.
Addressing concerns about spiritual tourism influencing food policy, Khaunte made clear: “Jo khana hai, khao, maza karo” , eat whatever you want and enjoy. He said that Goa’s approach is to provide options, not to impose dietary limits.
