Special Correspondent , New Delhi – After Durga Puja, now Diwali joins the ranks. The festival has been inscribed on UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage list. Following the announcement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings to the nation. A dedicated conference has been organised in New Delhi to identify and celebrate elements of cultural heritage.

The 20th session of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Committee commenced in Delhi on December 8 and will continue till December 13. Wednesday’s session witnessed the presence of Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat along with several international delegates. Speaking at the event, the Minister noted, “Diwali is truly a festival of light. It illuminates the path of hope, renewal, and new beginnings.”
UNESCO has stated that Diwali symbolises light, renewal, and the triumph of good over evil. People across communities irrespective of caste, creed, or religion take part in the celebrations. Rangoli designs, colourful lamps, and radiant displays form an integral part of India’s cultural identity. On X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote, “Diwali is deeply embedded in our cultural fabric. Global recognition of the festival will enhance its popularity across the world.”
