Ananya Lohia , Delhi - The Delhi government has announced a seven-year Rs 8,300-crore air pollution mitigation programme, backed by financial support from the World Bank, to tackle the capital's worsening air quality.
The initiative, titled 'Clean Air, Healthy Delhi', will be launched in September, with around 65% of the funding provided by the World Bank and the remaining by the Delhi government. The programme will target major pollution sources, including transport, road dust, construction and demolition waste, industries and solid waste management.
The project also aims to strengthen air quality monitoring through advanced technology, a dedicated project management unit and an integrated command and control centre. Measures to reduce emissions include phasing out old vehicles, promoting electric vehicles, improving public transport and introducing a stronger Pollution Under Control (PUC) monitoring system.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the ambitious initiative is aimed at delivering cleaner air and a healthier future for Delhi, with implementation plans set to be finalised later this month before the rollout begins in September.
