Desk Correspondent , New Delhi - The long awaited Delhi Dehradun Expressway is scheduled to be inaugurated on April 14, 2026, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with a designated speed limit of 100 km/h for cars on the six lane, access controlled corridor. The 210km long Greenfield project, constructed at an approximate cost of ₹12,000 crore, will slash travel time between the national capital and Uttarakhand’s capital from around 6.5 hours to roughly 2.5 hours, marking one of the most significant infrastructure upgrades on the Delhi Uttarakhand route.
The expressway starts near the Akshardham area in Delhi and passes through Baghpat, Baraut, Shamli, and Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh before entering Uttarakhand and terminating in Dehradun, connecting three states on a high speed, signal free highway. Officials have confirmed that the regulatory speed limit for cars will be 100 km/h, with higher end design standards for safety and comfort, including seven interchanges, multiple bridges, and several wayside amenities along the route. The project is also being touted as a major decongestion measure for Delhi, easing pressure on the Delhi Meerut Expressway and older NH 58 sections.
The Delhi Dehradun Expressway includes a dedicated 12km long elevated wildlife corridor, designed to minimise impact on animal movement, and is being described as one of Asia’s longest such structures when fully operational. The inauguration ceremony is to be held at the Forest Research Institute (FRI) campus in Dehradun, with the route opened to the public soon after, coinciding with the broader push to improve connectivity to hill districts and pilgrimage bound traffic in Uttarakhand.
