A powerful weather system, Cyclone Ditwah, is moving closer to India’s eastern coast, forcing a high-alert situation. The storm is currently near Sri Lanka and is slowly heading towards the coasts of North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a serious Red Alert for many coastal districts, including Cuddalore. Residents are urgently warned to prepare for intense, life-threatening weather conditions.

Forecasters are predicting 'extremely heavy rainfall', which means quick and widespread flooding and waterlogging, especially in city areas. The second big threat is gale-force winds, expected to gust up to 90 kilometers per hour. These winds are powerful enough to uproot trees, damage weak homes, and cause significant harm to standing crops. People in low-lying areas must be extremely careful, as they face the highest risk from surging floodwaters.
The heavy weather is not limited to just Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Other southern states are also on watch. Places like Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana are expected to see heavy rainfall over the weekend. Government authorities are urging everyone to stay indoors, avoid the coast, and follow all safety instructions. Emergency teams are ready to respond to any crisis as Cyclone Ditwah approaches the shore.
