Congress leaders contend India has already navigated intense political unrest now affecting neighbours like Nepal and Bangladesh. Congress panelist Surendra Rajput blamed the Anna Hazare-Arvind Kejriwal movement for India's destabilisation a decade ago. He controversially termed this led by "foreign powers’ puppets", whose "beneficiaries are already in power", recalling "screaming crowds". Rajput paralleled India's 2013 events with current neighbouring situations, claiming those in power there are "American agents".
Rajput credited Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh for maintaining peace, ensuring "no bullets should be fired" and viewing young protestors as "being used". The UPA government engaged in dialogue with leaders like Ramdev and Kiran Bedi to show youth it believed in dialogue, not anarchy. He claimed UPA saved India from violent anarchy Bangladesh and Nepal's governments could not prevent.
Despite these efforts, Rajput lamented a "government working for the people" was "defamed," halting economic progress. The Anna movement contributed to the BJP-led NDA coming to power. Rajput now perceives restored "respect for Sonia Gandhi and the late Manmohan Singh," and "hope has been kindled in Rahul Gandhi". Udit Raj also credited India’s Constitution and democratic foundation, a Congress legacy, for preventing such upheavals.
