Doda, August 26 – A sudden cloudburst in the Charu Nallah area of Doda district triggered flash floods, resulting in at least four deaths and damaging over ten houses. The heavy downpour caused water levels in nearby streams to rise rapidly, inundating low-lying areas and washing away small structures.
Local authorities immediately activated emergency protocols, with the Indian Army and disaster response teams deployed to assist stranded residents and evacuate affected families. Several roads in the area were blocked due to landslides and debris, complicating relief efforts.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the region, warning of further heavy to very heavy rainfall, which could lead to additional flash floods and landslides. Residents have been advised to remain indoors, avoid waterlogged areas, and follow instructions from local authorities.
Emergency shelters have been set up in safer zones to accommodate displaced families. Relief teams are distributing essentials such as food, water, and medical aid to affected households.
Officials are continuously monitoring river and stream levels, noting that the Tawi and Chenab rivers are already above danger marks. The cloudburst adds to the ongoing flood crisis in Jammu and Kashmir, where multiple bridges have collapsed and mobile networks remain erratic, hampering communications.
Authorities have urged vigilance and cooperation as rescue and relief operations continue across the district to prevent further casualties.
