The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially closed its probe into the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, clearing actress Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik Chakraborty of all major allegations, including abetment to suicide, illegal confinement, and mental harassment. According to the closure report, Rhea and Showik left Rajput’s Bandra apartment on June 8, 2020, and did not return thereafter. Between June 8 and June 14 — the day of the actor’s death — Rajput had no communication with Rhea or her family except for one WhatsApp message to his sister. During this time, his sister Meetu Singh stayed with him from June 8 to 12, while his manager was away due to an injury.
The report also noted that Rhea took with her an Apple laptop and a wristwatch gifted by Rajput, but there was no evidence that she took any other belongings without his consent. The CBI concluded that Sushant had regarded Rhea as part of his family, and therefore, any expenses made on her were not deceitful or unlawful. Moreover, claims that Rhea had threatened Sushant or made his medical details public were found to be unsubstantiated, based only on hearsay. Ultimately, the CBI found no evidence of any criminal role or abetment leading to the actor’s death.
