Heavy rainfall in Mumbai on Monday led to severe waterlogging across several areas, turning major roads into flowing streams. Outside a popular shopping mall, a young boy was seen taking a swim in the flooded stretch, drawing the attention of passersby.
The downpour, which began in the morning, brought traffic to a standstill and left commuters stranded for hours. Vehicles moved slowly through knee to waist deep water, while pedestrians struggled to wade through the flooded streets.
Although the unusual sight of the boy swimming brought a moment of surprise and even amusement to some, it also highlighted the extent of the city’s drainage challenges. Local residents said that such scenes have become common during monsoon, pointing to the lack of effective infrastructure to handle heavy rainfall.
Authorities have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and remain indoors as more rain is expected in the coming days. Emergency teams have been deployed in vulnerable areas to assist with traffic management and safety measures.
The incident serves as a reminder of how quickly heavy showers can overwhelm Mumbai’s roads, disrupting daily life and raising concerns about public safety.
