The Indian Army on Sunday dismantled a protest stage set up by the Trinamool Congress in Kolkata, triggering sharp political reactions. The move came amid heightened tensions as the party had planned demonstrations against the Centre.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticised the action, cautioning her supporters and party workers not to fall into what she described as the BJP’s political trap. She urged them to stay united and focus on strengthening their movement through peaceful means rather than confrontation.
Banerjee alleged that the BJP was attempting to divert attention from key issues by provoking unrest in the state. She maintained that the TMC’s protests were aimed at safeguarding democratic values and highlighting the struggles of the people.
The incident has added a new layer to the ongoing political tussle in West Bengal, with opposition leaders questioning the Army’s involvement in dismantling a political stage.
