Desk Correspondent , Thiruvananthapuram - Vattiyoorkavu in Thiruvananthapuram has emerged as one of the most closely watched seats in the Kerala Assembly elections 2026, with the CPI(M)‑led LDF, Congress‑led UDF and BJP‑led NDA locked in a three‑way contest. Incumbent MLA V.K. Prashanth of the LDF is pitted against senior Congress leader K. Muraleedharan and former Kerala DGP R. Sreelekha of the NDA, making the constituency a high‑stakes urban battleground.
The seat has already seen sharp triangular contests in recent polls, with the NDA finishing second in 2016 and 2021, while the Congress briefly pushed into second place in the 2019 by‑election. Within the Vattiyoorkavu limits, the BJP‑ruled city corporation currently holds 10 of the 18 wards, underscoring the NDA’s growing organisational base even as the LDF and UDF vie for the state‑level balance of power.
“In this constituency, people are not just voting for a party but for who can deliver development and governance without discrimination,” said a local BJP worker, highlighting the NDA’s focus on law‑and‑order and urban projects. A Congress booth worker, meanwhile, argued that Muraleedharan’s past experience and connect with the constituency would help undo perceived “stalled work” of the current government.
