Desk Correspondent , New Delhi - The Delhi government is set to launch the city’s first Yamuna River cruise by the end of May, offering a new tourism experience along a five-kilometre stretch. The air-conditioned service, featuring a catamaran-style vessel named "Namo Yamuna," will operate between Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur. Originally scheduled for February, the project was delayed to finalize technical preparations and is now expected to be inaugurated by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
The one-hour boat ride will provide passengers with panoramic views of the river’s ghats and natural landscapes. Tickets are expected to be priced around ₹500 per person, with operations running daily from 9 am to 7 pm. To ensure year-round functionality, officials selected a stretch upstream of Wazirabad where water levels remain consistent. The government also plans to introduce additional water sports at the site to further boost the area’s recreational appeal.
Constructed by Mumbai-based Inspiration Marine Pvt. Ltd, the 40-foot cruise boat is specifically designed with a shallow draft to navigate the river's unique depths. Delhi Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra indicated that a final launch date will be coordinated with the central government shortly. In addition to the cruise, the site will feature dedicated boarding zones and waiting areas, marking a significant step in the government's effort to rejuvenate the Yamuna waterfront for public use.
