Viral Satire Outfit 'Cockroach Janta Party' Overtakes BJP on Instagram

Ranit Kr. Singh , New Delhi — In a stunning digital upset, India's newly formed satirical political movement, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), has officially surpassed the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Instagram followers. Launched just four days ago by digital strategist Abhijeet Dipke, the meme-driven account surged past 10.1 million followers on Wednesday, eclipsing the BJP’s long-standing tally of 8.7 million. Born out of youth outrage following a controversial remark by Chief Justice Surya Kant comparing some unemployed youngsters to "cockroaches," the parody movement has evolved rapidly from an internet joke into a massive, participatory political subculture representing frustrated, digital-native citizens.

Operating out of an ironic space "wherever the wifi works," the CJP utilizes absurdist Gen-Z humor, revolutionary-style posters, and sharp sarcasm to critique real-world issues like institutional elitism, paper leaks, and systemic unemployment. Despite having under 60 total posts compared to the BJP's massive catalog of over 18,000, the CJP's viral manifesto—which includes demands like banning post-retirement Rajya Sabha seats for Chief Justices and curbing media misinformation—has struck a deep chord with millions of young Indians. Mainstream opposition figures have quickly jumped on the viral bandwagon to capitalize on the digital anti-establishment wave. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav lent significant political weight to the trend by dropping a cryptic, three-word post on X: “BJP banam CJP” (BJP versus CJP), highlighting the growing political undertones of the movement.

However, political analysts emphasize that social media dominance rarely translates directly into real-world electoral machinery. While the CJP commands the digital youth space, the BJP continues to decisively dominate real-world Indian politics. Even ex-CM of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav posted "BJP v/s CJP" on his Facebook page. Acknowledging the digital milestone but keeping expectations grounded, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke took a sharp swipe at the ruling party’s famous "world's largest party" branding, stating, “It took just 4 days. Don’t underestimate the power of the youth.”
