Ananya Lohia , Mumbai - Relentless monsoon rains continue to wreak havoc across Maharashtra, claiming more lives and disrupting normal life. A 10-year-old boy was swept away by the Kamvari River in Thane's Bhiwandi on Monday, a day after a 17-year-old drowned in the same river amid strong currents.
According to officials, the 10-year-old was dumping household garbage near the river when he was swept away by the overflowing waters. On Sunday, a teenager lost his life after being caught in the river's strong currents while catching crabs with friends. The IMD has placed Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Raigad and Palghar under a red alert as heavy rain continues to lash the state.
The downpour has also triggered widespread damage across Maharashtra. Thane reported over 180 emergency incidents, including tree falls, waterlogging, wall collapses and a hoarding collapse. A landslide partially disrupted the newly inaugurated Mumbai–Pune Missing Link, while the Mumbai–Pune rail route and expressway also faced disruptions. Authorities have advised private offices to allow work from home and urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel.
With rivers overflowing and more heavy rainfall forecast, disaster response teams remain on high alert across the state. Authorities have appealed to the public to stay away from rivers and flooded areas and strictly follow safety advisories as rescue and restoration efforts continue.
