Ananya Lohia , Kolkata - The political row over the alleged rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl in Baruipur has intensified, with the Trinamool Congress alleging that heavy police deployment and barricades were placed outside the residences of Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee to prevent them from visiting the victim's family.

The TMC claimed that security personnel and route marches outside the two leaders' residences were aimed at restricting their movement. Senior TMC leader Derek O'Brien shared visuals on social media, alleging that central forces had effectively confined the leaders to their homes.

Meanwhile, police said two people have been arrested and three others detained for questioning in connection with the case. A six-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed, while four FIRs have been registered, including those related to the alleged rape and murder of the minor and the lynching of a man during the protests. Prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the BNSS remain in force in parts of Baruipur as security has been tightened.

The incident has triggered widespread protests and a fresh political confrontation in West Bengal. While the investigation continues, authorities have assured that all those involved in the crime will be brought to justice.
