Desk Correspondent , Chennai - Actor-turned-politician C Joseph Vijay, chief of Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), on Sunday has announced that he will go fo the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections from two constituencies, Perambur in Chennai and Trichy East. The announcement came during a party rally in Chennai, where Vijay disclosed his party's youth-centric agenda.
The elections polls of Tamil Nadu is scheduled to be on April 23, 2026, to elect 234 members of the Legislative Assembly, with vote counting arranged for May 4, 2026. Vijay, making his electoral debut, positioned TVK as a strong alternative to the ruling DMK alliance led by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. He described the contest as a fight between his “people’s alliance” and the DMK’s “patch-up” alliance, while promising a drug-free and self-reliant Tamil Nadu. Key youth guarantees include timely government examinations and monthly financial assistance of ₹4,000 for graduates and ₹2,000 for diploma holders.
For the election polls Vijay chose people from everyday life, people who can understand the harsh life of average citizen. He believed integrity, a sense of duty, and dedication were far more imortant than just a resume full of aclomplishments. In Perambur, he is likely to face DMK’s sitting MLA R.D. Shekar, and in Trichy East, DMK’s Inigo Irudayaraj. The actor-politician personally selected candidates for various seats, including core team members, to field “true protectors of the people.”
