Desk Correspondent , Bhopal - Malappuram: Student organisations staged protest marches to a private school in Perinthalmanna on Friday following the suicide of 14-year-old Tejas P, who was allegedly subjected to mental harassment by teachers over his academic performance. Police said the boy was found hanging in his bedroom on May 2. His father, Hareesh P, lodged a complaint accusing teachers of repeatedly humiliating his son in front of classmates and threatening to mark his school transfer certificate with a red entry, which would block admission elsewhere. The protests by groups including the Students' Federation of India (SFI), Muslim Students Federation (MSF), and Fraternity Movement demanded strict action against the concerned teachers.
Police initially blocked MSF and Fraternity Movement activists, taking several into custody and removing them from the area. SFI protesters later entered the school compound, sat in front of the main entrance raising slogans, and were subsequently detained. A heavy police presence was deployed around the school gates to prevent further demonstrations. School authorities have denied the harassment allegations while recording statements as part of the ongoing police investigation into the death.
The incident has sparked renewed concerns over student mental health and pressure in educational institutions. Hareesh P told reporters on Friday that the constant tension created by the alleged harassment was the primary reason behind his son's extreme step. The case highlights growing demands for accountability in private schools amid rising cases of academic stress leading to student suicides in the region. Investigations continue as authorities seek to balance protest rights with maintaining order at the institution.
