Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s Meer Foundation has distributed essential relief kits to 1,500 families affected by severe floods in Punjab, described as one of its worst disasters in decades. This initiative, undertaken in partnership with local NGOs, aims to support rehabilitation across Amritsar, Patiala, Fazilka, and Ferozepur districts. The floods, which have claimed over 50 lives, displaced 4 lakh people, and damaged crops in 2,200 villages, were triggered by the swelling Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi rivers following heavy rainfall and sudden dam releases.
The comprehensive relief kits are designed to address immediate health, safety, and shelter needs, helping families rebuild their lives with dignity. These kits include medicines, hygiene supplies, food items, mosquito nets, tarpaulin sheets, folding beds, and cotton mattresses. Earlier, Shah Rukh Khan expressed his solidarity on social media, posting, "My heart goes out to those in Punjab impacted by these devastating floods. Sending prayers and strength”.
The Meer Foundation, a philanthropic initiative founded by Khan, has a track record of supporting disaster relief efforts across India. This collaboration underscores a spirit of unity and humanity in times of crisis.
