West Bengal – The political situation in West Bengal has already heated up due to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The promptness from the Chief Election Commission in conducting SIR has stirred BLO (Booth Level Officers) crisis in West Bengal. Today, BLOs have assembled at Nazrul Mancha with their 3-point claims to the CEO. They have raised their firm voices to ascertain their protection during the distribution of enumeration forms from November 4, 2025. BLOs alleged about life threats from several places. While the BJP govt. is determined to speed up the SIR in West Bengal, the TMC govt. announced procession against the BLO issue on November 2, 2025.
Today, a group of BLOs cum govt. school teachers gathered at Nazrul Mancha. They are skeptical about the upcoming BLO duty from Tuesday. They have submitted a deputation mentioning their 3-point claims. Firstly, BLOs should work ‘on duty’ rather than staying absent from school duties. One BLO told that she had planned to visit the houses from 7 am. Later, she discovered that she had to do school duty, then BLO work. Another BLO said, “It’s physically and mentally impossible to visit all the houses.” The second point stated about the protection of BLOs during duty. Thirdly, the demand stated that some booths have 1200-1300 voters, while there are only 2 BLOs to distribute forms. So, they demanded additional BLOs in some booths.
Amidst the ongoing BLO issues, the clashes between the center and the West Bengal state govt. continues over the protection of BLOs and the omission of valid voters from West Bengal. AITC General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee has already threatened to gherao the CEO's office in Delhi if any valid voters are cancelled from the upcoming 2026 state election in West Bengal
