Ananya Lohia , Mumbai - Actor Raveena Tandon has appealed to Bhagwant Mann after the Punjab government launched a drive to remove stray dogs from public areas following a Supreme Court order. The actor urged the state government to ensure the process is carried out with compassion, balance and humanity.
Raveena shared an emotional note on Instagram addressing the Punjab Chief Minister, saying that while public safety is important, the implementation of the court’s observations should remain humane. She stressed that compassionate solutions such as sterilisation, vaccination, proper shelters and rehabilitation could help protect both people and animals. The actor further said Punjab has an opportunity to become an example in handling the sensitive issue responsibly and kindly. According to her, the way society treats voiceless animals reflects its values and humanity.

Earlier, actor Sonu Sood had also reacted to the issue through a social media video. He said the visuals and reports surrounding the stray dog removal drive were disturbing. Sonu added that while incidents of dog attacks do happen, many stray dogs are cared for by local residents and are not inherently harmful. The Punjab government initiated the drive after a recent Supreme Court order allowed authorities to take legally permissible action, including euthanasia, against rabid, incurably ill or proven dangerous stray dogs posing a threat to human life. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated that the government would focus on removing stray dogs from areas with heavy public movement.
The issue has sparked a nationwide debate between public safety and animal welfare. While the Punjab government moves ahead with its stray dog management drive, celebrities like Raveena Tandon and Sonu Sood have called for humane and compassionate measures to ensure the protection of both citizens and animals.
