Desk Correspondent , Mumbai - Rajkummar Rao has officially started shooting for the long‑awaited biopic on legendary former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly. The film, titled Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story, began production with the first day of filming on March 31, 2026, as Rao announced the milestone on social media alongside behind the scenes photos from the set.
Sharing an Instagram carousel, Rao captioned the post: “And it begins… The one and only #DADA,” revealing the official title and signalling the start of the shoot under the direction of Vikramaditya Motwane, produced by Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg of Luv Films. Early reports indicate the film will trace Ganguly’s journey from his early days in Kolkata to his transformation into a combative, fearless captain who reshaped Indian cricket, with Rao also preparing to master Ganguly’s distinct Bengali accent and body language.
Ganguly, who has consistently backed Rao’s casting, said he believes the “right person” is playing him and has promised to assist the actor with inputs on his mannerisms, walk, and on field presence. The biopic has been years in the making, with several actors previously linked to the role, making Rao’s eventual casting a major talking point among fans and critics alike. As filming moves into iconic locations like Eden Gardens in Kolkata, the project is already being seen as one of the most high profile sports biopics in recent Hindi cinema history.
