Ananya Lohia , Kolkata - Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday unveiled a development package worth around ₹820 crore for West Bengal during the Paschimbanga Divas celebrations in Hooghly's Tarakeswar. During the event, he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several projects related to railways, agriculture, rural development, fisheries and animal husbandry.
A major portion of the package focused on railway infrastructure, with projects worth nearly ₹590 crore aimed at improving connectivity and public welfare. Modi inaugurated the Nabadwip-Puri rail service and laid the foundation stone for a 300-bed divisional railway hospital in Howrah, to be built at a cost of ₹99 crore. He also laid the foundation stone for a Road Over Bridge between Haur and Radhamohanpur in Purba Medinipur and dedicated the ₹421-crore Sankrail-Santragachi Link Line in Howrah to the nation, which is expected to boost rail operations and reduce travel time.
The Prime Minister also released the 23rd installment of the PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi scheme and launched the Digital Agriculture Mission, the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, the National Mission on Natural Farming and the Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana in the state. In addition, he inaugurated over 315 kilometres of rural roads built under PMGSY-III.
The projects launched and inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi are expected to strengthen West Bengal's transport infrastructure, boost agricultural productivity, improve rural connectivity and support the fisheries and livestock sectors, contributing to the state's overall economic development.
