Patna, August 31 – Bhojpuri actor and singer Pawan Singh has issued an apology to co-star Anjali Raghav after a viral video showed him touching her inappropriately during a live stage performance. The incident sparked widespread criticism, with Raghav later announcing that she was quitting the Bhojpuri film industry.
In his statement, Singh expressed regret and said he had no intention of hurting or disrespecting his colleague. “I sincerely apologise to Anjali Raghav and to all those who felt offended. It was never my intention to make her uncomfortable,” he said.
The controversy erupted earlier this week when a video from a cultural event circulated widely on social media. In the clip, Singh was seen placing his hand on Raghav without her consent. The footage triggered strong reactions from audiences, with many demanding accountability.
Following the backlash, Anjali Raghav announced her decision to step away from Bhojpuri cinema, citing the incident as the final trigger. She said the industry had failed to provide her a safe working environment. “I cannot continue working in a place where such behaviour is normalised,” Raghav stated.
The matter has reignited debate about workplace ethics and women’s safety in the regional entertainment industry. Activists and fans have urged stricter codes of conduct to prevent similar incidents.
While Singh’s apology may ease tensions, observers note that the controversy has raised important questions about professionalism and respect in Bhojpuri cinema.
