Ananya Lohia , Mumbai - Fans of the blockbuster sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD finally have a major update on its highly anticipated sequel. Director Nag Ashwin has confirmed that work on Kalki 2 is progressing steadily, with the team preparing to resume filming from next month. Speaking about the project's status, Nag Ashwin revealed that preparations are already underway for the next phase of production.
“Kalki 2 has already begun. We are making preparations to continue shooting from next month and complete it at a rapid pace,” he said. The sequel will see the return of Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan. The makers are planning an extensive production schedule to accommodate the film's large-scale visual effects, ambitious action sequences, and expansive world-building. A significant portion of the shoot is expected to be completed by April 2027, followed by a lengthy post-production process ahead of a planned theatrical release in December 2027.
Kalki 2 will pick up from the dramatic events of the first film and focus on the rebellion against Supreme Yaskin, played by Kamal Haasan. The sequel is expected to expand the franchise's sci-fi universe with new characters, unexpected twists, and some of the most ambitious action set pieces designed for Prabhas so far.
While the lead male cast from the original film is returning, Deepika Padukone will not be part of the sequel. The makers officially announced their decision to part ways with the actress in September 2025. Reports have since suggested that Sai Pallavi could replace her in the sequel, though the production team has not yet confirmed any casting details or her role in the film.
