Ananya Lohia , Mumbai - Mumbai is likely to witness more rainfall today as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the city and nearby districts. While the warning has been downgraded from a red alert, moderate to intense showers are expected to continue over the next few hours.
After recording over 200 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, Mumbai, along with Thane, Palghar and Raigad, remains under an orange alert until July 5. Several parts of the city witnessed heavy downpours, with Mulund recording the highest rainfall at 218 mm, followed by S-ward office (212 mm) and Powai (208 mm).
The relentless rain has led to waterlogging, traffic congestion and disruptions to daily life across the city. The IMD has also said that widespread rainfall is likely to continue till July 5, with isolated heavy showers expected on July 6. Meanwhile, a developing low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is expected to influence weather conditions across western and central India.
With more rain in the forecast, authorities have urged residents to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall. Although the alert has been lowered from red to orange, Mumbai is expected to continue experiencing wet weather over the next few days.
