Ananya Lohia , Mumbai - Heavy overnight rainfall disrupted normal life across Mumbai and nearby districts on Wednesday, with widespread waterlogging, traffic snarls and tree fall incidents reported across the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Mumbai, Thane and Palghar, warning of intense rain spells accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
Several low-lying areas, including Andheri subway, Worli and parts of Navi Mumbai, were inundated after many locations received more than 100 mm of rainfall. A tree fall on SV Road in Andheri further disrupted traffic, while congestion was reported on the Western Express Highway during peak hours. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said Powai Lake began overflowing early Wednesday morning following the heavy downpour. Authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel and remain alert as more rain is expected.
