A man drove his car into a security barrier at the gate of the White House around 10:37 p.m. on Tuesday and was immediately taken into custody by the United States Secret Service (USSS).
The Secret Service said officers from its Uniformed Division arrested the driver on the scene and searched the vehicle, concluding it posed no wider threat. They are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash, including the driver’s identity and possible motivation.
At the time of the incident, Donald Trump was reportedly inside the White House, though officials noted the building was not locked down. The road to the gate remained closed while the vehicle was removed.
